Katy was first formally settled in the 1890’s, being a railroad town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad. Katy is known for its rice fields & rice farming because of the fertile floodplain of Buffalo Bayou, which has its source near Katy. In the early 1800’s Katy was known as Cane Island, named for the creeks that runs through the area. Today there is a new Cane Island, a master-planned community, covering 1,100 acres of prairieland with many different amenities including home builders, restaurants, several pools, tennis courts, parks & even a conservatory.

Katy is a community in west Houston that has always been a traditional, family style community & it continues to offer residents the charm of a small town. Katy is a place that is great to call home, because of its great schools, homes, safe neighborhoods & a lifestyle that is ideal for abundant life, working & playing. It’s home to the Katy Independent School District which has a reputation for academic excellence & a rich sports history. Katy High School is home to the Katy Tigers football team with their history boasts numerous Texas state championships & always in the running for the title each year.There are many Master Planned Communities inside Katy that is part of the beautiful attraction this area offers. It is also home to Katy Mills mall, several golf courses, a water park (Typhoon Texas)& too many parks to count.

Among the brightest & biggest of neighborhoods in the Katy area is the Cinco Ranch community, a master planned community with 11 pools, 11 separate communities, too many tennis courts to count, its own golf course, a YMCA, & some of the best schools in the greater Houston metropolitan area. A common favorite town square of the locals is LaCenterra, an area in the middle of Katy, that is a wonderful place for the family to shop, eat, entertain and even do business. Katy heritage museum is a Katy landmark, which is a great place to learn about Katy’s history. Typhoon Texas is Katy’s local water park that is spread over 25 acres with over 33 slides, restaurants & a lazy river for family fun. Katy is also home to the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, a venue that offers many wonderful features, big spaces for each contestant & horse shows that are spectacular for everyone.
